Squadron Egg Hunt

Today we had an egg hunt/cook-out with Phil's squadron at the ranch of one of Phil's co-workers. It was a really pretty place with plenty of room for sugared-up kids to run around. The girls made out quite well and immediately dug into their loot. Here are some pictures from the day (and yep, you can click on the photo if you'd like to see more):

Go Fly a Kite

It's windy here. Really windy. But yesterday the UPS man delivered a new kite to our house, so Phil and the girls wanted to try it out. Fortunately it wasn't quite as ridiculously windy today as it usually is, and Phil was able to get some good flying in.

As usual, clicky for more pics...

Luck o' the Irish

What a lucky day we've had today! Coincidence? Or lucky St Patrick's Day? You decide:

-Phil flew during the day today, not at night!
-Claire slept in until 7:30; even the bugle didn't wake her!
-When Maddie and I got into the kitchen I discovered my husband had made coffee before he left this morning and left enough for me!
-While making Maddie breakfast I discovered he had also left some homemade smoothie in the fridge - yay snack for the girls! Seriously, am I lucky to have this guy or what?
-Maddie looked like she had some "business" to do so I asked her if she'd like to sit on the potty. To my surprise she said, "Yeah" and ran into the bathroom, where she proceeded to go peepee on the potty. Hurray Maddie!
-While she was on the potty the phone rang. It was the housing office. No, our luck wasn't good enough for them to decide they wanted to move us to the base commander's house or anything, but they did tell me that we won the drawing this month for $100!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Just wanted to wish all of our readers a happy St Patty's Day!

An Old Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Explanation

OK, to explain Phil's earlier post (and to vindicate myself) I have the following to say:

1) The cell phone was probably my fault. I left it in my jeans pocket. I put the jeans into the washing machine. Cell phone + washing machine = dead phone.
2) The cordless phone may have been my fault. I put it on the bed. Sure, I even stripped the sheets off of the bed. I did not, however, take the mattress pad off of the bed. That was done by my husband. The phone could have been in there. Anyway, it too made it into the washing machine. Dead phone #2.
3) In my defense, neither of these mishaps would have occurred if I had a laundry room in which to sort the laundry, thus giving them a day or so (OK, probably more like a week or so) to rest in between dirty-in-the-hamper and getting-clean-in-the-washer. In that time their absence would have been noticed and no phone fatalities would have occurred.

So the obvious conclusion is that human error on my part contributed to the phones' demise, but the house is ultimately to blame.

I must admit it is a bit empowering to watch our remaining phones tremble with fear as I walk past...

Telephone troubles

I'll admit I'm not a domestic god(dess) like my dear Katie, but...here's the score as of day 103 in Oklahoma:

Washing Machine - 2
Phones - 0

Anthem

Living on a military base is, for the most part, very similar to living off-base. There are some differences though, like the loudspeaker (aka "The Giant Voice"). They play the morning reveille, the national anthem, and evening taps every day for us all to hear. Claire's favorite is reveille, as it signals 7am and the time she is legal to get out of bed. I think the national anthem is Maddie's favorite:

Emergency!

So the other night while flying, I had a bit of a "situation" that led to an early precautionary landing and being met by a bunch of fire trucks with pretty flashing lights. Luckily, it was nothing too extraordinary, just keeping on the conservative side when it comes to expensive airplanes.

I didn't think it was worth waking Katie up at 3am to regale her with my story of heroics, so I explained the situation in the car as we drove to Witchita Falls for some family photos Saturday morning. As our ever-attentive daughters listened in, we get the question from the back seat:

"Dadddy, what's an emergency?"

Well, we explain to Claire that it's a time that things aren't quite right and you need someone's help. If she ever is in a bad situation that could be an emergency, she should call her momma and dadda. And she replies, "Oh, like if you're getting chased by a tiger! You should run away and hide under a bush!"

Not quite sure where that situation came from, but I think she's got the idea.

A different perspective

I got to fly on a different jet yesterday and see what it looks like to have a half-million pounds worth of metal and jet fuel just feet away at 450 mph and 25,000 feet! It's part of the instructor program to make sure we understand how our techniques in the C17 affect the other jet while refueling in mid-air. Of course, I had to bring along my big camera!

New toy for the (pretend) princesses

The girls are always happy to see the UPS guy. He's a friendly enough fellow, but I think they like him because he brings them stuff. He stopped by the other day and was so kind as to deliver this from Grammy and Grampy:

Both of the girls have had a wonderful time playing in their castle. They have also had a wonderful time playing in the box it came in (sorry Grammy and Grampy!). In fact, Claire told me again today that we shouldn't get rid of the box. At least this gives them each something to play in, right?

Sick sick sick

Sorry for the recent lack of blog activity here. We've been battling all sorts of sickness. We had Claire to the Dr early last week for a chronic cough - Maddie came home with antibiotics for an ear infection. Then I went in last Friday for dehydration after a bout with a stomach virus. The girls went to the on-base day care that morning, because I couldn't take care of them. The doc gave me fluids and some phenergen. Good stuff. Then yesterday we went to our friends' house for dinner and Maddie came over grabbing her diaper (her signal that she wants to be changed). When I picked her up I noticed she was all warm and squishy where she shouldn't have been. She came home in a borrowed outfit. Seems to have picked up the stomach bug. Claire is still coughing. I swear, as soon as we get over one thing we pick up another! Phil has fortunately managed to avoid most of this, which is good. Anyway, I've heard that this is going around everywhere, but that explains our lack of blogs. We've been a bit tired. Hopefully we'll be better soon and I'll have more interesting things to blog about!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope everyone reading this can snuggle up to someone special today. And Claire hopes everybody can eat lots of candy. She had a little party at her preschool today and came home with so much candy that it looks like she went trick-or-treating. She had so much that she shared with Maddie. Woohoo! Two sugared-up kids!

And the girls made me this card:

Claire says that's me on the left, and she wrote "MOM" and put a shark in the right corner. Maddie gave artistic direction and lent moral support. Not sure what the shark's about.
